Moving to new host without hassles

A few years back, I seem to recall seeing a post detailing a step by step method of moving SunShop from one hosting company to another. I have not been able to find it on the forum.

We will be moving our SunShop installation to a new host next week, and I'd like to be as prepared as possible. We have a fair amount of customization in the current installation, so I'd prefer not to have to start with a fresh install.

Does anyone have a link to that post or similar instructions?

As an alternative, here are some preliminary questions:

    1. I assume we'll need to create a new database on the new server as part of the move. We'll then import the backed up data from the original database. How do we link this new database to the new install?

    2. Are there any other settings that will need to be changed once we've been moved to the new server?

    3. Will we be able to test/ troubleshoot the installation on the new server before changing the DNS records for our domain?

    Thanks for any advice!

I followed the instructions that Chris posted to a 'T' and this is the error my shop is showing on the new hosting server.

Fatal error: Incompatible file format: The encoded file has format major ID 3, whereas the Loader expects 4 in /home/server/public_html/ on line 0

Any idea how to fix this?

Here's what I would need to know to help you:

    Version of SunShop.
Version of PHP on OLD server.
Version of PHP on NEW server.
Whether new server is running Zend or IonCube (one is required to run Sunshop. Your host should be able to tell you this).

With the above info you may be asked to replace the libsecure.php file in the root and in the /admin folder. In SunShop, those files are specific to the version of PHP and whether you are using Zend or IonCube. It is very common to have to change these files when switching servers.

Hey Brian, thanks for the response. I checked and my new host is using PHP 5.3 while the old one had 5.2. I uploaded new copies of the libsecure.php file and I am now fine.

    Thanks again!
