    Order numbers on notification emails

    For years, I have followed this instruction after every upgrade:

    Code:
    ** In global.php, change this line:

    mail_send($settings[contactemail], $settings[title], $lang['order']['email_admin_order_subject'], $email, $settings[contactemail], $settings[title], true);

    To this:

    mail_send($settings[contactemail], $settings[title], $lang['order']['email_admin_order_subject'] . " #".$order[id], $email, $settings[contactemail], $settings[title], true);

    This will insert the order number in the subject line of the customer notification email.
    After upgrading to 4.3.3, it no longer works. My notification emails show the # sign without the order number. What do I need to change to get my order numbers back?

    I ran test "purchases" on the shops I upgraded, and the resulting emails (that are sent after purchase) display the order number. That said, I believe that the email_order_confirmation.html theme template was one of the files that needed to be updated. (I didn't customize that template; just copied it from a 4.3.3 theme.)

    Unless you're talking about a different email?

    No, the template was not at fault. In case I was unclear, the code is supposed to display the order number in the SUBJECT LINE of the email that goes to the admin. I'm seeing the "#" sign but not the order number. It's as if the ".$order[id]" part is not being read.

    Over the years I've really gotten used to having those numbers in my intray. Sure would like to get them back.

    Actually, that sounds pretty useful, Kraken. I'd like it built in! Otherwise, you get a bunch of identical "Blah Blah Store Order Confirmation" emails in your inbox.

    Chris? (Please?)

    I added it to the Sunshop 5 suggestion thread.

    The code that I reproduced above worked in every version from 4.0 to 4.3.2. No idea why it suddenly stopped in 4.3.3, but I suspect it's something minor. I just don't speak PHP well enough to understand why...hoping one of you dev gurus can figure it out, or maybe Chris will ride to the rescue.

    i experienced the same exact problem. I have always updated the global and it worked. This time it didn't and my host reloaded the site and i have since left it alone. I will play with the email template as Diane suggested.

    Actually, it sounds like editing the global.php might be the way to go (even though, as you note, it doesn't work now with your original coding). But let us know if just editing the email template works.

    Doesn't work. I was able to get the # sign into the email but not the order number.

    Yeah. That's my experience exactly. Guess we'll just have to learn to live without it.

    Hey guys,

    Sorry for the delay on responding to this. Please note that we changed the variable from $order to $order_info because of some issues. If you put in $order_info[id] that should resolve the problem.

    Hooray! It's kind of embarrassing how dependent my order fulfillment routine has gotten on having that number in my intray. Very glad to have it back.
