Home page not in xml sitemap

I noticed that the home page URL is not automatically put in the XML sitemap. It should be. Using latest version.

Aside from your warranted comment about the missing file information for the XML Sitemap, I'd just like to mention that XML sitemaps, which are geared for search engines, have largely become obsolete for all but the largest content-heavy sites (even then it's questionable).

Even Google mentions, "If your site’s pages are properly linked, our web crawlers can usually discover most of your site." Google also states, "Using a sitemap doesn't guarantee that all the items in your sitemap will be crawled and indexed, as Google processes rely on complex algorithms to schedule crawling."

In case a reader here is on the fence, it doesn't hurt to have an XML sitemap, but according to the latest information, it's okay not to have one.

With competition like it is today, you have to do everything you can to roll out the red carpet for search engines.. and don't discount Bing, AOL and others who combined have more than 30% market share in the US. When search bots come to your site, they don't always get to everything you want them to, so by having a sitemap with your most important pages, it helps them prioritize what to look at. Many sites dont have an xml site map, but I wouldn't build a site without one.
